Muslims give food locally and abroad for Eid al-Adha sacrifice (The Blade)

Community Impact

Jameel Burkett, board chair of the Islamic Food Bank, said Americans are spoiled by the availability of meat. But for some communities — because of the donations — Eid is the one time of year they get to eat meat, he said.

Sacrificing the lamb models Ibraham’s obedience to God in the story recognized by all Abrahamic faiths, Burkett said.

“We have to sacrifice a lot for God,” he said. “It was kind of like a test from God to say, ‘How far are you willing to go?’”
