About Us

About

Founded in 2008, the Islamic Food Bank (IFB) has grown to feed thousands of people across northwest Ohio year-round. Our focus is to extend consistent access to nutritious and delicious offerings to our neighbors in need in line with their preferences. We are proud to provide food that we would serve to our own families and guests in our own homes.

IFB is a community-driven organization – for the community, by the community. Funds are raised from the community and from corporate and institutional givers. Food is distributed via a robust network of collaborative community partnerships.

The Islamic Food Bank of Toledo, LLC is a nonprofit limited-liability company and an affiliate of The Foundation of the Islamic Food Bank., a 501(c)(3) organization.

Shared Values

Our mission and work are rooted in core principles such as feeding the hungry and caring for one’s neighbors. We recognize and celebrate our partnerships with individuals and organizations of shared values.

Feeding the hungry is integral to Islam and is mentioned numerous times in the Quran and the ahadith (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him).

Muslims are obligated to feed the hungry and help anyone in need. As the Quran states,

“(The righteous are those) who feed the poor, the orphan, and the captive for the love of God, saying: ‘We feed you for the sake of God Alone; we seek from you neither reward nor thanks.” (76:8-9)

Kindness toward one’s neighbors is also central in Islam:

“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side…” (Quran 4:36)

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) reiterated the special status that neighbors have:

“The companion who is the best to Allah is the one who is best to his companion. And the neighbor that is the best to Allah is the one that is best to his neighbor.” (At-Tirmidhi)
